HyperFibre Requirements:

  • HyperFibre Capable Modem:
    • Minimum of 5Gbps WAN port, preferably 10Gbps WAN port
    • LAN ports sufficient to distribute Hyperfibre speeds to an internal network, preferably minimum 2.5Gbps LAN ports
  • IP Acquisition Method / Connection Type: PPPoE or DHCP/IPoE - For best performance we recommend IPoE
  • Connection Type: Ethernet
  • VLAN Tagging capable on the WAN Interface
  • Ethernet WAN Port (Multi-Gigabit rating recommended)
  • If you have requested IPv6 a /56 prefix will be delivered by DHCPv6-PD, your router will need to support DHCPv6 Client for the WAN

Having trouble configuring your router?

Service Down?

  1. Ensure your Hyperfibre Optical Network Terminal (ONT) and router are switched on.

  2. The power light on the ONT should be green.
  3. Check if the PON light is green. If it is, your Hyperfibre is working correctly.
  4. If the PON light is red, your Hyperfibre service is down. Please contact our support team on 0800 477 333 so we can investigate further.
  5. If the PON light is green, verify that an Ethernet cable is securely connected between the LAN10G port on the ONT and the WAN port on your router. The LAN10G light on the ONT should be blinking green if the cable is connected correctly.

  6. If your service is still not working as expected, review your router's configuration. If it is correct, try rebooting both the ONT and the router.
  7. If you are still experiencing difficulties with your Hyperfibre service, please contact our support team on 0800 477 333 so we can help you get back online as soon as possible.

Speed Issues?

Before we begin → Are you set up with IPoE or PPPoE? We highly recommend using IPoE with DHCP for your router instead of PPPoE because it not only simplifies setup but also offers faster and more reliable internet speeds. IPoE eliminates the overhead that PPPoE creates, allowing for a smoother and more consistent online experience, ensuring you get the most out of your internet connection. You can view our IPoE specifications at this link. If you encounter any issues while configuring IPoE, please contact our support team to confirm if it is enabled for your service.

  1. Ensure the cables you are using with your Hyperfibre service are at least Cat6 or Cat6a, as lower-grade cables may not handle the service effectively.
  2. Verify that your router supports the bandwidth of the Hyperfibre service. The WAN and LAN ports on your router must match or exceed the speed of your Hyperfibre service to utilise the maximum speeds.
  3. Your computer's network card (NIC) also needs to match or exceed the bandwidth to achieve optimal performance.
  4. If all the above specifications are met, please visit our speed test guide to conduct an accurate test: https://voyager.nz/speedtest
  5. If you’re still having issues with your Hyperfibre service, please get in touch with our support team by emailing us at support@voyager.nz or calling 0800 477 333 between 8 AM and 10 PM so we can assist you in resolving the issue.

Is your ONT's power cable missing or damaged?

Please do not plug any other power cable into the ONT - this can damage the ONT. If you are missing the power cable, please fill out this form and Chorus send you a new one: https://www.chorus.co.nz/contact/ont-replacement
