Public Static IP
How does a Static IP get set up for eero for Business?
This feature is only available to customers that purchase eero for Business with static IP service through select eero ISP partners and can only be used on eero for Business networks. An ISP technician will first install and activate a business network. The primary router/gateway will receive an IP address from the ISP’s DHCP server or configured statically by the ISP technician. After the business network setup is complete, the installer will configure a subnet of static public IP addresses in the eero mobile application. Client devices that need a public IPs will be connected (wired or wirelessly) to the gateway or leaf eeros. Any device that you wish to set up with a public IP will need to be on the Main Network SSID/Segment. You will then manually configure a static public IP address from this subnet on the desired client device.
How do I manually configure a Static IP on my devices?
Once a static subnet has been configured, the eero gateway will take up the first usable IP address in your leased range for itself, and your other usable IP addresses can be statically configured on the client devices (as needed). To locate your available range of static IP addresses, open the eero app and navigate to network settings, then select Public Static IP. You can also reach out to your ISP to get information on what subnet they have set up and ask about available IPs for your devices.
As an example for a /28 subnet, you will get a total of 16 addresses out of which 14 can be used for clients. The first of the 14 IP addresses will be used by the gateway eero and the rest can be statically configured for client devices on the eero network.
As an example, for a subnet "203.0.113.0/29", you will have a total of 8 addresses (203.0.113.0 - 203.0.113.7) out of which 6 can be used for hosts (203.0.113.1 - 203.0.113.6). The gateway eero will take up the first usable IP address of "203.0.113.1" and the rest of the 5 usable addresses can be used for client devices on the eero network.
To set up a static IP on your client device, you will need to refer to the user manual for that device. When configuring the static IP on your client device, select one of the available addresses from your subnet configuration. As noted above, eero also strongly recommends implementing your own firewall as part of this step.
